Hummingbird Needlepoint Services
Finishing - Framing - Stitching

Meet Chris
Chris has been needlepointing for nearly 40 years. Beginning with cross stitch in her teenage years, Chris was introduced to needlepoint by a friend and took weekly lessons for 6 years to hone her craft. Needlepoint quickly became a passion. Chris enjoys stitching a vast assortment of needlepoint projects - stockings, ornaments, pillows, framed pieces, 3D figures (some with porcelain heads) limoge boxes, purses and much more. (A few examples are pictured below.) Using a wide variety of threads, stitches, beading and ribbon work, Chris' focus is to create an exquisite piece of needle art for all to enjoy.

Chris started her needlepoint finishing service in 2017 as a small home business focusing on providing quality finishing services at a reasonable price. Recently retired from 25 years of teaching, Chris is expanding her business and happy to assist you with your finishing needs.

Chris is an active member of the national ANG and EGA organizations, and local chapters of the Black-Eyed Susans and Constellation chapters.

Terms & FAQ
I have tried to think of every possible question. I hope you can find your answer below.
Who do I work for?
I work for both retail and private clients. Retail is charged wholesale prices. Private clients are charged fair market prices.
Do I outsource?
No. I finish all orders personally. I do not outsource any work.
How can a client ensure the best possible result for his/her finished piece?
-
Working on a scroll frame or stretcher bars is best and helps the blocking process.
-
Ensure that all threads are secured to the back of the canvas.
-
Ensure that all embellishments (beads, charms, etc.) are securely attached.
-
Do not attach embellishments against the edge of the canvas. Please leave approximately 3/8” space.
Do I block?
-
Yes, always. I use minimal steam to block pieces in an effort to avoid any issues with bleeding fibers.
-
I am not responsible for any fibers or embellishments that bleed onto adjacent fibers. If you know that you have used a fiber or embellishment that typically bleeds, please let me know and I will not use steam.
-
The first blocking is free. Additional blockings will depend upon size of design.
Should I stitch extra rows or fill in narrow spaces?
-
If a client wishes to see your entire stitched boarder, then clients are encouraged to stitch 2 extra rows around their design.
-
If a design has narrow spaces that are less than 4 intersections, please fill in between these narrow spaces so that the finished product has a smooth edge.
What types of fabrics do I use?
-
Fabrics typically used: velvets, moirés, dupioni silks, satins, ultra-suedes, etc.
-
Ordinary cottons are not usually used, but if a client requests a cotton, I will derfer to the client.
-
If a client wishes to use a specific fabric, he/she is encouraged to provide fabric when sending the design.
Do I make or use prefabricated cording?
-
Both.
-
Clients are encouraged to include additional fibers if he/she wishes to have a corded edge that is an exact match.
-
If a client does not include additional fibers, I will do my best to color match when making twisted cording.
-
If a prefabricated cording seems to be the best option, I will elect to use prefab cording.
Embellishments and Ornamental Items?
-
Prices for ornamental items such as tassels, beaded edges: depends on size, price to be determined.
-
Cost of zippers, buttons, wooden feet, embellishments, extra décor, etc. will be added to the base cost of the finishing.
Photographing finished pieces and social media?
-
I do photograph all finished pieces. Some of the photographs are used on my website, Instagram, and/or Facebook pages. If you prefer I not publish your piece, please let me know.
What is my turn-around time?
-
Turn-around time depends on the number of variables:
-
Time of year. Typical turn-around from January to end of July can be between 2-3 months. Turn-around times between August and December can be 3-5 months.
-
The number of pieces a client sends and if the client wants to receive them in one shipment.
-
Blocking time. If a customer uses a frame when stitching, the blocking time is shorter. If the canvas is distorted because a frame was not used, the blocking could take longer because the piece may need re-blocking multiple times to straighten it.
-
Whether or not the customer sends fabric, finishing times may be reduced. If I need to order fabric, finishing times could be impacted by supply chain.
-
I have a variety of fabrics in stock that may be used depending upon the preference of the client.
How do I pay?
I use PayPal to invoice clients. The client has the option to pay through PayPal, check or cash.
Who pays for shipping?
Client is responsible for paying shipping and insurance costs.
Can a client drop off/pick up his/her piece?
Yes. If you live locally, I am happy to make arrangements.
What happens if I do not pay?
I will send you an email with photos of your finished piece(s). Once you approve, I will invoice you through PayPal. Payment is expected upon receipt of the invoice. If you do not pay the invoice within seven (7) days, I will reissue the invoice and send you an email reminder. If you do not pay the invoice within ninety (90) days, the finished piece will be automatically forfeited to Hummingbird Needlepoint Services.
Do I do custom framing?
-
Yes.
-
Prices are dependent upon type of frame, type and number of mats requested, hardware.
